American artist Robert Parker's (2) 10"x12" spiral-bound sketchbooks, completely filled with 48 full page watercolor sketches and additional laid-in works. Some sketches appear loosely related to Parker's published work: November 19, 1917 Diaries, from Franz Kafka: Dreams, Diaries and Fragments. Included is an 8.5" x 10" New Yorker Desk Diary used by Parker, with appointments, notes, postcards, etc. When the prolific artist died in Connecticut in December 1013, he lft behind these personal artworks and ephemera. Parker's archive is unusual in its depth and breadth of subjects and the intimacy of his work. He held back nothing even as his eysight became compromised later in his life. He was loved by a generation of fellow artists. Parker attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago from 1948 until 1952 and worked at the Skowhegan Scool of Painting and Sculpture in Maine and at Stanley William Hayter's Atelier 17 in New York. Since his first solo show in 1954, Parker exhibited extensively, and his credits include set designs for opera and film as well as book illustrations. 10" - 12".
